Chinese New Year 2024 in Cairns - Year Of The Wood Dragon

Published on Wed 7th Feb 2024 12:33:09am AEDT

Chinese New Year is a festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.

The lunisolar calendar is used in many cultures and it combines lunar calendars and solar calendars. The date of Lunisolar calendars therefore indicates both the Moon phase and the time of the solar year, that is the position of the Sun in the Earth's sky.

Many cultures use the astrological zodiac signs to categorise people based on birth month. Chinese use the zodiac signs to relate to the lunar birth year. They believe that the lunar birth year and the spirit animal that belongs to the year says a lot about strengths, weaknesses, and talents of the people born in that specific year.

2024 is the year of the dragon according to the Lunar zodiac. They say that people born this year are charismatic, intelligent, confident, powerful and they are naturally lucky and gifted.
