Rocket to Fitzroy Island aboard the Thunderbolt, on a 30 minute adventure ride.
This is a half day tour exploring the island departing at 10am and returning at 2:20pm. The Thunderbolt is great fun for kids and adults. It travels at 80km per hour and it is a fast way to get to the beautiful Fitzroy Island. Visitors travel in a small groups avoiding the crowds and have more of a personalised and private service.
Fitzroy Island is a continental island 29 km south-east of Cairns. Fitzroy is a tropical island covered in tropical rainforest surrounded by a reef system that forms part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The island has a total area of 339 hectares and the highest point of the island is 375 metres above sea level.
Fitzroy Island has so much to do and explore. Visitors can walk through the rainforest, swim in the calm waters of Welcome Bay, see the fish swarm underneath the jetty or build sandcastles at Nudey Beach. Also it is a great place for hiking with four walking tracks established on the island.
There are many activities available daily on the island such as guided glass bottom boat tour, guided sea kayaking tour, hire of snorkelling equipment, paddle skis, stand up paddle boards, ocean trampoline and much more. Some of the package deals are:
Snorkelling around the island is a pleasant experience and perfect for kids or those ones who are learning how to snorkel. The reef is located just off the beach so the access to the snorkelling locations are easy and close to shore making it comfortable to snorkel.

Thunderbolt is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant.

Beaches: The beaches on Fitzroy Island are not patrolled by surf life savers. Marine stingers are present in tropical waters from November – May and clients will be provided with a stinger suit for use while snorkelling during this period.
Paddle Skis and Stand up Paddle Boards:Please note that the paddle skis and stand up paddle boards are shared between all clients doing the same activity package. The free usage of the equipment is for about 1 hour so all clients can have their turn.

Reef Tax: $5.00 is levied for all adults and children entering the Great Barrier Reef. This charge and other levies are INCLUDED in the cruise fares.
Booking fees: Tourism Cairns do not charge any booking fees.
Deposit and final payment: At Tourism Cairns clients are required to pay a deposit only at the time of booking. Final payment is to be completed 48 hours prior to departure or on the day of travel, depending on each tour operator's policy.
Cancellation by the traveller: If the tour is cancelled by the client up to 7 days prior to departure, a full refund is applicable. If the tour is cancelled by the client 7 days prior to departure, the deposit amount might be retained. If the tour is cancelled by the client 48 hours prior to departure, 100% cancellation fee may apply.
Booking amendments: If the date of a tour needs to be changed, Tourism Cairns must be notified in writing by the client up to 48 hours prior to the tour date.
